2025 Plantastic Vegetable Gardening Seminar

The Gillespie County AgriLife Extension Office with assistance from the Hill Country Master Gardeners will hold their 7th annual Plantastic Vegetable Gardening Seminar on February 21st, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM at the Gillespie County Extension Office (38 Business Court, Fredericksburg). Sessions are applicable to both new and experienced vegetable gardeners, organic and conventional, from those looking to learn new techniques to those just wanting to learn how to grow a tomato plant. The program will consist of two general sessions led by Skip Richter, retired horticulture extension agent and radio personality for the GardenLine radio show. After an optional lunch, participants will break out three times with their choice between three concurrent sessions. Topics for the breakout sessions include “Basic Tomatoes”, “Advanced Tomato Growing”, “Vegetable Diseases to Dismiss or Dread”, “Herbs”, “Gardening 101”, “Gardening with Chickens”, “Raised Bed Gardening”, “Perennial Vegetables: Harvest Forever?”, “Attracting Beneficial Insects to your Garden” and more. Door prizes will be drawn at the end. During breaks, stop by the seedling table to test your knowledge at identifying the various vegetable seedlings.
Cost for this program is $45 with the lunch option, $35 no lunch option or $35 at the door (no lunch). Online registration and payment by credit card is available by ticketleap at https://gillespie-county-horticulture.ticketleap.com/plantastic/. A small credit card fee is attached to pay online. Payment is also accepted by cash or check with the paper form found at Plantastic Gardening Seminar PreRegistration Form 2025 or available at the Gillespie County Extension Office. Pre-registration closes on February 19th, but at the door registration (no lunch) will be accepted the day of the program. No pesticide agricultural applicator CEUS will be offered for this program.

2025 Grow It Cook It Program Series

Have you ever wondered what to do with all the vegetables you grow? Are you looking to learn how to grow a certain vegetable or want to improve your harvest of it? You should try the Gillespie County Extension’s Grow It Cook It 2025 program series. Come taste recipe samples, see recipes demonstrated, and learn how to grow the target vegetable. Cost is $25 for the series, $15 per individual program. Topics are:

January 24th, 2025 12:00-1:00 PM. Onions
March 21st, 2025. 12:00-1:00 PM. Green Beans
May 2nd, 2025. 12:00-1:00 PM. Melons
